!!!: Chk, Chk, Chk, not Ah, Ah, Ah

The Holiday season is upon us and soon we’ll all be packing house with guests for Christmas parties, New Years rendezvous and family get togethers, but what do you play on the iPod that will appease all party-goers?

The disco-punk grind of !!! is a catchy, toe-tapping fruit cake, filled with slap bass, electro-bits and dance pudding. Be forewarned before digging into this delicious treat that the tunes are by far white man’s funk and not Sly Stone. The spin from old funk is not the killer electro-acoustic melodies or the wack dance grooves, those are similar, but the daft Prince lyrics and pocketed polyester shirts. Such things make !!! no less worthy of spending the night with you, but be careful not to mistakenly confuse them with Sly in the presence of a Funk guru.

Since their premiere album, he octet has slekened their sound, distancing themselves with the hay days of grit-punk and mash metal but still do Fugazi justice from time to time with a few angerful right jabs and the occasional wife beater and Mohawk clad lad on their dance floor mainstay. And your grandma will like them too – because the with the volume on low, the vocals are drowned by instrumentals and it might just sound like classical flutes to her. Tell her that your playing celebrate-Jesus-hymns remixed on your keyboard, she’ll call you clever and eat her cake too.
