Our Favorite Pranks - A List of Funny Pranks

April Fool's Day is world wide day for fun and games. Although no one really knows when it started the jokes and pranks go back decades. We've put together a list of hilarious moments that are sure to make you laugh and give you some great ideas. If nothing else these jokes will go down in history as some of the best.

Undeniably one of the best hoaxes of all time, this 1957 prank is one for the history books. BBC news show Panorama announced that Swiss farmers were enjoying a surplus spaghetti crop due to a mild winter and elimination of spaghetti weevil. Huge numbers of viewers called in how they too could get their own spaghetti tree. They were told “Place a spring of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best”

Sport Illustrated joined the ranks of the spoof elite in 1985 with their Sidd Finch prank. In the April edition of the widely read magazine, a story was released that the NY Mets had gotten a new rookie pitcher, Sidd Finch. He apparently could throw at 65 mph faster than the previous world record. Instead Finch had mastered the “art of pitch” at a Tibetan Monastery. Thousands of readers were fooled into elation at this great “luck” for the Mets.

In 1992 NPR program Talk of the Nation announced that Richard Nixon would be running for President again. His slogan you ask… “ I didn’t do anything wrong, and I won’t do it again”. An impersonator was used to create a voice over of Nixon speaking. Listeners were obviously shocked and outraged at the thought!

If you’ve ever been frustrated by annoying service representatives giving you the wrong thing in Best Buy this prank is for you.  Members of Improv Everywhere invaded the a Best Buy store in Manhattan pretending to be Best Buy Employees. A great moment for both the fooled customers and annoyed employees.

Known hackers and prankers at MIT succeed again in 1998. Student hacked the main page of the website created a fake home page and press release stating that the School was being purchased by Disney for 6.9 Billion Dollars.

In 1976 BBC did it again. Patrick Moore a British Astronomer announced that due to the Planet Pluto passing behind Jupiter, Earth at precisely 9:47 AM would experience a change in gravity. At this time exactly we would be able to feel a slight floating sensation. The best part of this hoax is that many people called in reporting having felt that “strange floating sensation”.

1974 residents of Sitka, Alaska were terrified at the sight of black smoke coming form the crater of dormant volcano Mount Edgecumbe. After the recent eruption of Mount St. Helen residents were duly terrified at the thought of such destruction in their town. Tons of residents could be seen lining the streets terrified at the site. Lucky for them it was a joke played by known prankster Porky Bickar, who had set fire to hundreds of old tires in the crater.

In 1998 Burger King played a major joke on their customers, by announcing a new “ Left-Handed Whopper”. This whopper would apparently cater to their left-handed customers by rotating the condiments 180 degrees. Customers actually believed the joke and went in ordering the “Left-Handed Whopper”.

Taco Bell upset thousands of Americans on April Fool’s Day 1996, by announcing they had the Liberty Bell. Apparently Taco Bell was going to rename this staple of Patriotism the Taco Liberty Bell. Thousands of citizens were obviously angry at the thought and called up the National History Park to let them know!

I’m not sure if this was done on April Fool’s Day but it’s so funny it had to be included. SciFi channels show “Scare Tactics” played a mean little joke on an animal lover. Watch the video to this poor guy get scared to tears on one of the funniest pranks.

There you have it, some of the best moments in April Fool's Day history. Now go out and play a joke on someone. Keep in mind you may need to run after playing some of those jokes, so keep you guard up of you really play a good one! Good luck and Happy April Fool's Day!
