5 Bizarre New Year’s Eve Drops

Ah New Year’s Eve. One of the best parties of the year. Go to a club or party and drink excessively. Dance because you’re so wasted you actually think you are Michael Jackson. Head outside and stumble to the center of town for the ball drop. Or possum drop.

Yes, I said possum drop. With the extra time us Squeezers have had with the holidays we did some quality research with the reliable resource “the internet” especially that handy, always truthful site, Wikipedia. We have compiled some of the strangest drops that ring in the new year around our beloved country.

In order of ascending oddity:

5. Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff AZ Pine Cone Drop

A giant metallic pine cone. Eh, not that weird. Except it evolved from a couple of guys throwing a garbage can (with pine cones glued to it) off their roof in 2000.

4. Fayetteville, AR

This year they’ll continue their relatively new tradition of the hog drop. We assume it’s a fake hog; disappointingly “the internet” didn’t have any photos of Fayetteville’s hog drop. Obviously you can’t believe all the hype about “the internet.”

3. Mount Olive, NC

Mount Olive Pickle Drop

Home to the Mount Olive Pickle Company (please note the irony), they appropriately drop a pickle. It drops into a large barrel. We’d like to know the exact dimensions.

2. Tallapoosa, GA

Tallapoosa Possum Drop

The folks down in Tallapoosa, drop a possum. Not a real live possum, but a possum nonetheless. [Insert hill billy joke here]

1. Port Clinton, OH

Port Clinton Walleye Drop

Port Clinton has celebrated the New Year with a Walleye Drop the last 12 years. With local and national sponsorship this Walleye themed party is out of control. It culminates with the dropping of a 20 foot, 600 lb. fiberglass fish.
