Whether you have a house full of people or you’re alone with your blow-up doll, you need someone who you can get down with – listening, that is. Top 6 bands to rock out to.
Death From Above 1979:
This indie rock, synth-infused Toronto duo kicks a good mixture of Drum & Bass with some punk splashed in. You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine is the album that is adored by night crawlers in the basement bar of an old warehouse that spins Drum & Bass on Tuesday nights. The perfect album to throw down if you want to kick the night and get everyone to loosen up. Girls in vinyl to follow.
Song of choice: Black History Month
Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers:
They are a self proclaimed “Penta-caustic roadshow.” This rockabilly band takes you back to the drug-induced coma in which you swore you saw their album cover, a man-headed piglet, come to life. Play this album under two circumstances, your hosting a goodbye, I am leaving for a swamp-voodoo trip to lower Missouri where I will yelp some blues or, under the influence, you feel like bashing a ham-mic into your forehead and swinging from living room beams. In that case, by the music video and follow suit.
Song of choice: Where’s The Devil
Nine Inch Nails:
Everybody knows these guys and they straddle a few different genres, so you are sure to please everyone, even your blow up girlfriend.
Song of choice: Survivalism
Wolfmother:
70’s psych-rock is perfect for gallivanting around the house to mingle with mixed crowd. Because they have a melodic jam band sound, you can also kick off your burk’s, light up a smoke and lay that afro on the lap of a t-shirt and tight pants-wearing sweetie.
Song of choice: Woman
John B:
A favorite over there in the U.K., this guy is a douche bag, trust me, I know. However, he spins a pretty mean combination of Drum & Bass and liquid funk. You spin it, and the girls equipped with leather and ‘hawks will be lapping up your sweat in no time. John B is also a good role model if you want your boyfriend to start using your eyeliner. Besides, all that crap that you hear in the downtown clubs? This isn’t it. In fact, they do not even own a John B record.
Song of choice: John B Electrostep
EPMD:
If you are not into hip-hop, do not even think about rolling your eyes. This is original, a “funk fueled, sample heavy” dose of it. This duo lifted beats from older popular artists and gave them a rhythm of their own. May I say one last thing? Do not disregard Gold Digger; Jamie Foxx had no part of that action.
Song of choice: You Got’s To Chill
