If you've read Watchmen, then you might be excited for the film's release on March 6th. The graphic novel is timeless in its portrayal of America's social and political climates. Sure, it's about superheroes, but it symbolizes much more than that, and in a way that most other comic books don't. Fans of Watchmen are rabid in their love for the characters and unique plot, and the movie studio is completely aware of this, which is why the viral marketing campaign is so perfect. Check it out.
Who Watches The Watchmen?
A lot of internet blogs are hating on Watchmen's advertising campaign. How could you hate this?! It's the perfect interpretation of mid-80s MTV, what with it's uber-hip host and rock music playing in and out all the clips. If superhero's existed there would be plenty of shows like this one.
The Keene Act
And how about this mock PSA about the Keene Act? It's completely reminiscent of those crappy newsreels we had to watch in elementary school. It really makes Rorschach looks terrifying and evil. (How funny is Richard Nixon on Mount Rushmore?)
Real Men Use Veidt
This commercial for Veidt hair spray really captures the essence of 80s marketing. If you haven't read the graphic novel, then this just looks like a completely random retro commercial to you, which is exactly what they're going for.
So that's just a few pieces of Watchmen viral marketing. Like we said, lots of people are ragging on it, but we love it. Avid fans will understand all the references. We're nerds.
