While admittedly a female vocal nihilist, Autolux does deserve their time in the moon light… er, lime light. Carla Azar is one of the few female leads not hard up enough to screech feminine rants into a microphone. Her slightly spoken vocals relieve more tension than the yelps of America’s beloved pop idols. These progressive lullabies will not induce dream filled sleep though, the solid drumming reverberates under your skin enough to keep you wide eyed while you prepare for yet another day.
Autolux is from the grimier portion of the West Coast – Los Angeles, and garbs a definite optimism that their glam rock, coke-fed counterparts simply cannot muster. This slow treading rock beats to a higher purpose than most electronic fluff and they claim to know a lot about the future but furthermore, they know how to engage their listeners. From drums to violins, Autolux were clever enough to let the mischievous world of punk rock pass them by. The band remained true to their unique, deep sea sound and as time marched on, plucked from the lessons they learned while part of Failure and Ednaswap - creating a new grouping of sci-fi/ scratched record hymnals. Much like their record, the band seems to be floating through a gravitational space, leaving meteor showers of young astronauts prepared for marshmallow clouds and a hard days work.
