The winter sports season is in full swing, especially in the Northeast, with the Ice Bowl under their belts. Everybody serves hamburgers and hot dogs and beer, but what about those that want to take tailgating to a whole new level and bring some new plays to the game?
Nothing says life of the party like the guy who brings the homemade shot luge. For those who have not ever attended a VIP party with ice sculptures, a shot luge is a long, large (100 to 200 pounds) block of ice propped or graded to an angle on the top of which a serpentine channel is carved. Liquors and liqueurs are then poured into the channel at the top and flow down to the bottom of the block where the drinker places either his or her mouth or a shot glass to receive the super-cooled shot. Sounds like fun, right?
-A few days before the big event, freeze a block of water in a plastic tub lined with plastic or buy a block.
-The day of the event, cut the block at a 30-45 degree angle with a chainsaw.
-With a magic marker, draw snaking lines down the block.
-Use an ice chipper, or a spoon, to carve away where the lines are. It is only alcohol floating through so no need to make 5 inch wide slides unless you want a face full.
-Narrow the snake paths as you get towards the end.
-Carve a lip into the ice so that drinkers will have a place to put their mouths.
-The alcohol running through will smooth the ice, so no need to worry about sanding it.
If you’re lazy, just buy one online. The drunkards will still thank you in the end.
